HERSHEY'S KISSES Dear Daughter Heirloom Porcelain

Born as a daughter of Herr Doctor Hofer in

Salzburg, Austria in 1925,

Elfriede Gabriel Hofer Pedersen,

was raised as a privilaged young lady. Being catered to all she needed and wanted.

How ever during the War,she found herself a very scared little girl as she had to run from the opposing forces decending upon her from all sides. Dressed in only the clothes upon her back, she and hergirl friends rode through thenight on horses for their very lives.

Returning home after the war, she found amist thebombed out rubble, her house standing alone. Her Mother there to greet her, promptly burned all he rclothes she hadon, including the pair of flour sack under wear she had so proudly made. Her mother hadopened up thehouse to others whom had been bombed out, so the house was a bit crowded, one family to aroom.

After the war, she married Allen T Baxter, a serviceman and came to the United States to begin anew, though she knew nothing of being an American. She brought forth 3 children, the oldest iswriting this passage. Thoughout her various travels,  she always longed for her old Austria. She always carried a snip of Edelweiss with her .

After Allen T Baxter, she married Richard Urbon and had 2 more children.

Elfriede passed away this summer and left behind the innocence and shyness that was her

real self and that tiny snip of Edelweiss.

The world she grew up in was to be nevermore, except in her mind.

The beauty of Salzburg before the

war lives on in over 300 of her artworks and drawings.

"Edelweiss"

Take, dear Lady, take these flowers
Children born of sun and showers.Summer sun and winter snow
Crushed the rock on which they grow; Strength of immemorial chalk
Fed the fibers of their stalk;Lightning, hurricane and storm.
Shaped their pliancy of form, Gleam and gloom of varying sway
Stained the petals ashen gray. Which, like loving hearts, enfold
In their midst one spot
of gold. Fearless head and steady foot
Tracked the cradle of their root. Now a link in friendship's chain
From the mountain to the main. Nurslings of the central sea,
Such as late I gave to thee,Lull the senses, charm the eye,
Bloom and whither, breathe and die. These, by sterner process made,
Slow engendered, slowly fade. And they bring where'er they fare
Just a whiff of Alpine air.
Lady, take these simple flowers,Emblem meet of sun and showers.

Oscar Browning,Davos-Platz, August 1889

I WILL ALWAYS BE LIKE THE WIND
JUST A WHISPER THROUGH YOUR MIND
                                            TOUCHING YOU EVER SO SOFTLY
                                                         WITH LOVE AND CARESS'S
